Identification Points
Binding
Hard white canvas cloth boards with brown lettering along the spine and brown bullet shells on the lower-right of the front cover. Issued in a slipcase.
Dust Jacket
Dust jacket shows two prices on the inner front flap: "Trade $20" and "Limited $60" — identical to the US first trade edition's dust jacket.
Copyright Page
States "First Edition" — identical to the US first trade edition. (No signatures on this page; signatures appear on the front free end paper.)
Limitation Statement
Front free end paper bears the limitation statement: "This special edition of the Dark Tower: THE GUNSLINGER is limited to 500 copies, signed by the author and artist. This is copy ____" with the copy number (1–500) written in by hand and signed by Stephen King, and illustrator Michael Whelan on the same page.
Notes
The dust jacket and copyright page are identical to those of the US first trade edition — only the binding and the signed limitation statement on the front free end paper distinguish this issue. With only 500 numbered copies in existence, the Gunslinger Grant signed/limited is the bottleneck of the matched-numbered Grant signed/limited Dark Tower set: every other Grant signed/limited Dark Tower volume was issued in print runs larger than 500, so a copy of any later volume numbered above 500 cannot be paired with a matching-number Gunslinger to complete a matched set.
Also issued: 52 lettered copies (A–Z, AA–AZ), 12 publisher's copies, 40 author's copies, and 10 artist's copies.
